Phantom Stallion E-Newsletter February 2009

Happy Valentine's Day!

Have you ever heard of potatoes with a heart? How about potatoes with a horse?

If you'd like to make your own Valentines this year, or if you're just looking for a fun, inexpensive EQUINE art form, try potato stamps!

Supplies:

1 potato, cut in half
Cookie cutters - hearts & horses if you have them
poster or tempra paint or stamp pad
shallow bowl (into which you'll pour a puddle of paint)
Construction paper folded like a card

Process:

Press cookie cutter against cut face of the potato.

Have someone who is comfortable with cutting or carving trim around the shape of the horse or heart and you'll have a stamp.

Dip in paint or press against stamp pad. Add glitter if you have some.

Decorate construction paper card.

Variation: If you don't have a horse cookie cutter, consider drawing a horse and surrounding it with hearts.

Tip from Terri: "I'm a writer, not an artist & my potato stamps don't always look like they're supposed to look. So a heart might end up being a rock or plant and then I'd draw a horse jumping over it! The potato print still adds color and interest to the picture."

Another idea: Check out this website http://www.horses-and-ponies.com/printables/valentines.shtml for wonderful horse and pony printable Valentines!
