Phantom Stallion E-Newsletter May 2008 Welcome Summer is nearly here and it's time for another monthly update from Terri and her Phantom Stallion crew. Barbecue season is quickly approaching, with holidays like Memorial Day just around the corner. If your family has a barbecue in the back yard, remember you can grill more than just meat! Try pineapple rings or apple halves sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar (YUM), corn on the cob or even garlic bread. And, as soon as the northern Nevada winds and earthquakes slack off, Terri will be perfecting her recipe for barbecued fries, so stay tuned. Of course you'll have to keep watch over any of these, but there's nothing like a good Saturday barbecue with the family to get the summer started off right. After all, there's only one more month until the summer fun really begins once school is out. For those of you who have horses or get to ride regularly, now is the perfect time to saddle up. We want to get to know you and your equine friends! Send us your favorite picture of you and your horse and we might post it on the Phantom Web site. As always, be sure to get your parent's permission first. We will post your first name, state and your photo. If you haven't put yourself on Terri's map, please join readers from all over the world and see who's reading the same books you are! Remember to check Terri's calendar (there are some additions since last month!) to see if she'll be signing books or presenting at a bookstore in your hometown! Terri loves to meet her readers, as you can see from the photos in her photo album. Take a look at some new horse photos in the photo album. Don't forget, you can send your friends an e-postcard of your favorite Phantom Stallion book. Take a look at some new horse photos in the photo album. Happy trails! This just in . . .
In March, Terri led a three-day creative writing workshop in Lyon County. Students there had the opportunity to meet the well-known author during the writing workshop over their spring break. Terri, who has always said she is a "cowgirl at heart," said the workshop used "hands-on participation and games that lead to writing confidence." It was intended for middle and high school students and participants received the special treat of a signed "Phantom Stallion" book. Gram was kneading bread and staring out the kitchen window and I had a fork full of maple syrup-soaked waffle half way to my mouth when Gram said, "The pink rains are back!" Her voice was dreamy and I had no idea what she meant until jumped up to look . . . Where is Terri Farley?
May Did you know?
The name "mustang" from the Spanish mesta–o, means a horse that has strayed and become wild. Indians tamed some and used them to reign over the west until the coming of the railroads, ranchers and homesteaders.
