Heart too full to know what to say?

Dear Readers,

That's me, delivering hand written and horse decorated letters from my readers who have a HEART FOR HORSES to Senator Harry Reid, a few years ago.

But the horses are still in trouble, and we need to do it again, this time directly to the BLM.

HOWEVER ----- I'm hearing from lots of you who want to stand up for the horses, but doing know what to say.

Here's a sample letter you may modify to fit your thoughts and feelings. Please feel free to share it with your friends, parents and teachers.

Dear Secretary Salazar:

The Bureau of Land Management has rounded-up thousands of America's wild horses. Now, it may kill them. Over and over again Americans have said their horses must run free, but that hasn't stopped BLM from saying that killing wild horses is a "magic bullet for budget problems."

Instead if spending millions of dollars on flashy helicopter round-ups, please halt all round-ups until independent observors can assess range conditions and take accurate counts of wild and domestic animals on the land.

Don't hope our wild horses can balance the budget with their lives.

I want them to still be roaming free when I finally get the chance to see them.

Sincerely,

Your name & your age

Letters can be mailed to:

Terri Farley, 565 California Avenue, Reno, Nevada 89509 and I will deliver them for you.

Emergency Call to Action for Mustang Foals

Nevada's wild horses are in danger NOW.

The Nevada Department of Agriculture has given orders to kill orphan mustangs even though these babies were being nursed back to health in the homes of wild horse "angels".

Several of these foals have already been seized. Their fate is, at best, uncertain.

We're doing what we can to keep attention focused on the NDA now, but you can help too, no matter where you live!

NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS: Next Wednesday, July 22, I will be part of a group which will carry petitions to Nevada's governor.

If you'd like to show Governor Gibbons that people all over the world consider wild horses a treasure, please click here http://www.thepetitionsite.com/4/speak-up-for-the-wild-horses to sign the petition and please ask your friends and family to do the same.

I'll speak up for you and the horses!

Terri Farley

WILD HORSES ON THE PHANTOM'S HOME RANGE MAY BE CAPTURED AND SOLD FOR SLAUGHTER

The Phantom can't speak for his wild cousins -- but you can!

Here's What Can You Do To Help the Horses Stay Free

  • At least 130 wild horses died of salmonella at BLM's Palomino Valley Wild Horse Center. Salmonella is highly contagious and difficult to control. Infected horses "shed" it when they become stressed or ill. It's often present in the meat of slaughtered horses.
  • BLM has zeroed out many Herd Management Areas. That means what it sounds like: all the wild horses have been removed from areas like Slumbering Hills, Antelope Range and others. For a look at those horses, visit http://mustangs4us.com/gallery_of_hmas.htm by Nancy Kerson. Blue Wings HMA has been reduced to 29 horses.
  • America's horses are going to Mexican slaughter houses. if you can stand to see what's happening to them, go to the Humane Society of the United State's Animal Channel: http://hsus.org/

How can you help?

  1. You can reach your federal legislators by calling the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121, or Go to Congress.org and enter your zip code to find your Representative and Senator click on each one & you will get an address & phone number.
  2. Call and politely ask that your representative to support the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act.
  3. Congress.org will also give you an email address. Please write a follow-up email. Feel free to use this sample:

    Dear ___________:
    (ENTER YOUR REPRESENTATIVE'S NAME HERE)

    Please support HR 503 and S. 311. .

In 1959 and again in 1971, the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress stated: "Congress finds and declares that wild free-roaming horses and burros are living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the West" .

Please don't let them become a symbol of our greed.

All horses are wild at heart.

Sincerely, __________________ (YOUR NAME GOES HERE)

  4. *** Forward your copy of the response you get from your Senator or Representative to wildhorsepower@aol.com and you'll be entered in a drawing for one of 20 autographed PHANTOM STALLION bookcovers.
